Canada2080 uses a distant horizon to improve present decisions. The year 2080 is an aspiration and a scenario boundary. It gives Canada time to build capabilities that require decades of institutional learning, infrastructure, patient capital, and generational renewal.
The initiative begins from strength. Canada has world-class research, universities, talent, resources, and specialized systems. But it does not consistently connect those strengths to Canadian-controlled production, operating knowledge, domestic opportunity, decision rights, and reinvestment. That gap is a strategic opportunity if Canada develops the foresight and continuity to act across generations.
A public trajectory
Canada2080 will make its preferred trajectory inspectable. The website publishes four Canadian systemic Gaps, mission fields, scenarios, research, indicators, events, and accountability updates. It also shows offramps that could weaken the work, including metrics theatre, technology lock-in, growth without capacity, and infrastructure without legitimacy.
The first convening
A small kickoff release will bring a cross-sector group together to test the agenda. Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, 2026 are under consideration, with the final date and time being determined through invited-speaker and VIP availability.
The 140-minute format combines arrival networking, an 80-minute programme, invited academic, industry, and governance perspectives, a possible panel, and commitment-focused follow-up. People are listed as invited guests rather than assumed speakers, and participation does not imply endorsement.
What follows
Signals will hold research, event records, consented photographs, discussion syntheses, reflections, interpretations, and progress reports. The first accountability test follows the kickoff: what moved, who owns the next step, and what evidence changed the plan?
